Sorbus – 15 Knot Out!
The roots of Sorbus lie with the multinational Japanese subsidiary Fujikura Europe where Phil Wade was a Divisional Manager and Nicky Wade a Senior Sales Administrator. In the mid 1990’s Phil received a call from Alice Holt Forest Research Station, regarding an ultrasound device which was used for detecting decay in wood telegraph poles. Asked if the device had ever been used to try & detect decay in trees – the answer was ‘no’ and here the story begins.
Fujikura decided to pull out of arboriculture altogether in 2007 and Sorbus was formed by Phil & Nicky to take over this business – right in the middle of a recession!
In 2015, with the Sorbus annual growth rings getting larger and existing premises bursting at the seams; Sorbus moved to a much larger facility in Frome complete with showroom & even a climbing wall for visiting customers to ‘try before they buy’.
Offering a huge range of specialist products for arboriculture, forestry, utilities, horticulture, landscaping & grounds maintenance both in the UK and overseas. We stock a wide selection of PPE, work clothing, tools and more. We also offer branding & embroidery services.
Exclusive UK distributors of IML GmbH products including the IML Resi-PD microdrill and market leading PICUS 3 sonic tomography system for decay evaluation in trees and other wood structures including wood utility poles & play equipment. We also offer the complete range of Haglof Sweden forestry related products and the award winning Japanese ARS pruning range.
For ongoing Tree Care we provide BITE tree infusion systems to treat trees under stress or in decline, BioSecurity kits/disinfectants and the Avengelus Trichoderma based products that help combat decay organisms affecting trees. The latest edition is the PocketDiagnostic range of rapid on site lateral flow tests which includes identification of phytophthora at an early stage.
